Fortunately, I have never liked candy, even when I was a child.
Unfortunately, my partner

likes them but, when I read the ingredient list and investigate, I find that it is better to throw them in the trash.
These candies contain E171, a carcinogenic dye banned in the food industry since 2022.
"Titanium dioxide, initials E171, until recently used in a great many products intended for food consumption, is now considered a high potential health risk by the European Food Safety Authority (Efsa).
As of July 2022, it has been banned for use in food throughout the European Union, so in Italy as well.
E171 was used as a food coloring added to baked goods, candies, gum, soups and ready-made sauces. Its function is to enhance the color of foods, to make them more inviting and appealing.
Toxicological studies conducted have found a strong risk of genotoxicity, that is, e171, if accumulated in excess, can damage the DNA of our cells, potentially leading to cancerous development of the cell itself. After ingestion, absorption is generally low, but possible carcinogenic effects in continued use over time on the rectum and interference with the immune system and reproductive capacity have been emphasized."
