I saw a review earlier this week by @agreene428 about a bakery in Dayton called
Baker Benji’s. So today, I made a trip to check it out.
Today’s baked item is a Vegan Apple Turnover. Still counts as a serving of fruit, right? 😁😬🤣
This Apple turnover is light and flaky. It has small chucks of Apple for the filling that have a nice flavor. It is nicely balanced with the Apple and cinnamon taste. Now I am one who likes A LOT of filling, so a touch more would have been nice. But I am not complaining.
The person I spoke with at the bakery was incredibly nice and welcoming. I was even given the back story of how the location was originally a Kroger store and the first bakery oven was placed, if I recall correctly, close to 1890. I was also told the location has been a bakery ever since it was constructed.
If you’re looking for a neighborhood bakery with welcoming staff and who had a great Vegan Apple Turnover, I’d recommend this location. I’d also recommend TWO Apple Turnovers because one won’t be enough! Haha
